The mentor identifies pictures of the most important cultural monuments of the host country and he/she introduces the main history and value of these monuments to the TCN(s) with the aid of the pictures.
The mentor needs:
- To select important cultural monuments.
- To focus on the history of these monuments.
- To focus on the location of these monuments, i.e. to be near the area that the TCN(s) reside(s) or at key-locations.
- To develop a friendly relationship with the TCN(s) during the pictures’ presentation, aiming at organising cultural field trips/visits with him/her/them to these monuments at a later stage.
- One mentor.
- A set of pictures of important monuments of the host country.
- Information for the selected monuments.
- A map indicating where the selected monuments are located.
- General directions on how to visit these monuments.
- Action plan(s).
Implementation Steps
Τhe mentor selects monuments mainly based on the area of residence of the TCN(s) or that are located in key-areas and identify good quality pictures of them. He/she also needs to ensure that he/she has knowledge on these monuments and, if not, to be able to research for relevant information. At the same time, the mentor needs to provide the TCN(s) with a map where these monuments are clearly marked in order for him/her/them to easily realise where they are located.
During this presentation, the TCN(s) get(s) to know the selected local cultural monuments. At the same time, important information (history, value, etc.) about them are presented by the mentor. At the end, the TCN(s) get(s) an idea of where these monuments are located as well as general directions on how to visit these monuments at a later stage with the aid of the map.
The mentor asks from the TCN(s) to reflect on the presented pictures and to express his/her/their thoughts and feelings. Also, he/she invites the TCN(s) to compare these monuments with monuments of his/her/their country of origin and to express his/her/their thoughts and feelings as well, when recalling them.
After that, the mentor signs the action plan(s) of the TCN(s) as completed.
