Pre-requisites: This activity targets those TCNs that want to start looking for a job.
Estimated Duration: 1 hour

Step: 2
Dimension: Structural
Qualitative Indicator: Getting a job
Type of activity: Group or individual
When someone starts looking for a job, he/she needs to choose a preferable sector (depending to his/her training, education, and qualifications). On the other hand, sometimes the need for a job surpasses the preferable sector and, by using some of his/her skills and general training, the TCN(s) are engaged to different sectors. So, are the motivators more important than the preferred sector?
The activity will give a picture of where the TCN(s) are able to work and in which sector they want to work. The difference between these two states creates a twofold basis, on the one hand what they really want and on the other hand what concessions they make to the need for work. So, the TCN(s) will be asked to choose the job sector(s) that their skills and knowledge cover and at a second stage, they will choose the job motivators of their present needs. The results of these two tables will give feedback to mentors to help the TCN(s) get into the process of reviewing and prioritizing their job needs with what they need to do to cover both conditions.
- One mentor.
- A table listing different job sectors (Annex 2.6.2).
- A table listing different motivators that lead to a job search (Annex 2.6.3)
- Print-out form(s) with the tables.
- Pen(s).
Implementation Steps
The mentor distributes to the TCN(s) a table with the main working sectors (Αnnex 2.6.2). The TCN(s) must choose one or more sectors depending on the background that they have (training, education, skills, and qualifications).
In this step, the mentor distributes to the TCN(s) the motivators’ table (Annex 2.6.3), listing the reasons why an individual could start looking for a job. From this table, the TCN(s) have to choose the 5 most important reasons for them to start looking for a job.
Having collected the results from the two tables, the mentor will ask the TCN(s) if the motivators have been proven stronger than the sector that they prefer, or the sector(s) is/are more essential. In other words, if the need for a job is more crucial than the selected sector(s). When the motivators are stronger, the mentor has to ask why this happens and what the conditions should be to include the preferred sector(s). The mentor will help the TCN(s) to meet both conditions, if possible.
